About Derrick Luksch

Derrick Luksch began his career in dental technology at the age of 12, apprenticing under his father, Karl Luksch, a master technician and owner of Precision Dental Lab in Sacramento, California. Trained across all primary specialties with a strong focus on precision attachments and dental ceramics, Derrick built a foundation rooted in craftsmanship, accuracy, and innovation. 

After years of honing his skills and earning the General Manager position, Derrick purchased Precision Dental Lab in 1978 and spent the following decades expanding into CAD/CAM systems, industrial machining, and advanced manufacturing processes, pushing the boundaries of what modern dental laboratories could achieve. A holder of multiple U.S. dental technology patents, Derrick’s work has helped shape advanced laboratory systems and processes still used today. 

In 1996, Derrick joined longtime friend Mike O’Brien as co-owner and General Manager of O’Brien Dental Lab in Corvallis, Oregon, becoming sole owner in 2002. Under his leadership, the lab grew into a nationally respected, technology-forward laboratory known for uncompromising quality and personalized service. 

After more than 55 years in the industry, Derrick thoughtfully transitioned ownership of O’Brien Dental Lab to Karli Luksch, entrusting its future to the next generation of leadership while remaining involved as an advisor and mentor.
